2027 is coming. Two routes beyond.
Many universities run SAP Student Lifecycle Management on SAP ERP 6.0. The maintenance for it has a date. We show both routes forward – SAP’s and ours – side by side, with sources. And how a move to AcademyTailor works in stages.
The dates that matter
- End of 2027: end of mainstream maintenance for SAP ERP 6.01. … days left.
- End of 2030: end of optional extended maintenance.
- 2031 to 2033: time-bound continued operation with the transition option for SAP ERP, private edition2, under prerequisites until the end of 2035.
- End of 2040: SAP’s innovation commitment for SAP S/4HANA3.
Inside the core or beside it.
Both routes are legitimate. Which one fits depends on your SAP strategy, the scope you need from day one, and your timeline.
SLcM on SAP S/4HANA
SAP offers Student Lifecycle Management for SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition4; it also runs on S/4HANA in your own data centre5.
- Full SLcM scope, rule containers, study object, FI-CA in the same system
- Stays in the ERP core – migrated together with the S/4HANA conversion
- One system per university
- Partner solutions based on SLcM in the SAP Store, such as NTT DATA SIS Simplified
AcademyTailor on SAP BTP
Newly built on SAP BTP6, beside the core, posting to SAP S/4HANA7 – regardless of when and how you convert your ERP.
- Clean core: no modification, upgrades per tenant
- Multi-tenant: one HDI container per institution
- Modern user interface, English and German, REST and webhooks
- Honestly: study object, exam scheduling, notices and statistics are roadmap
See first, then pilot, then switch.
Not a big project with a requirements document, but stages after each of which you can decide. Anything still on the roadmap is labelled as roadmap.
- Intro call and landscape. SAP release, SLcM or not, number of programmes, what hurts.
- Data sample. An export of one programme from your system, translated into AcademyTailor – you see your own data.
- Pilot beside the legacy system. One programme or one academy in AcademyTailor, posting to the same S/4HANA, the rest of your institution stays where it is.
- Roll-out by plan. More programmes and units, aligned with the roadmap: study object, exam scheduling, notices.Roadmap
- Legacy switched off. Once every programme has moved – not before. A migration cockpit for SLcM data is planned.Roadmap
One programme and one contact.
The export of one programme, a person from the registry who can decide, and a BTP subaccount. That is all the start needs.
A team that speaks SAP.
Many years of SAP Basis, BTP and integration, sixteen SAP PRESS books – and the habit of finishing every stage with a result you can see.

Questions about migration.
- When does maintenance for SAP ERP 6.0 end?
- According to SAP, mainstream maintenance for SAP Business Suite 7 core applications, including SAP ERP 6.0, ends at the end of 2027; optional extended maintenance runs until the end of 2030. With the ‘transition option’ for SAP ERP, private edition, SAP offers time-bound continued operation from 2031 to 2033, under prerequisites until the end of 2035.
- Does SAP Student Lifecycle Management continue on SAP S/4HANA?
- Yes. SAP offers Student Lifecycle Management for SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition; according to SAP it also runs on S/4HANA in your own data centre. A version for SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition is not mentioned on the SAP pages checked.
- How long does a move to AcademyTailor take?
- That depends on scope. We start with a data sample from your current system, followed by a pilot with one programme beside the legacy system. We plan the stages after that together; anything that is still roadmap appears as roadmap in the plan.
- Can SLcM and AcademyTailor run in parallel?
- Yes. AcademyTailor runs on SAP BTP beside the ERP. During a pilot one programme can be run in AcademyTailor while the rest of the institution stays in SLcM – both posting to the same S/4HANA.
- How does data get out of SLcM?
- SLcM stores objects, infotypes and relationships following SAP’s HR model. A migration is therefore not a table-to-table copy but a translation. A migration cockpit for this is roadmap; the data sample shows what your data looks like in AcademyTailor.
